Cheeky Chipmunks Weekly Round Up

May 18th, 2012

This week some of the children have been looking at how their actions can affect and upset others. They have been looking at what makes them feel ‘happy’ and what makes them feel ‘sad’. They also discussed how to make their friends feel better when they were upset.

The rest of the children have enjoyed exploring the balancing beams and using an obstacle course to help to develop their balance and coordination.

Our termly parent meetings are next week if you have not made an appointment yet but would like a meeting with your child’s key person please speak to them and they will be able to book one for you.

The Chipmunks would like to wish Angela a very Happy Birthday tomorrow.

Have a great weekend.

This week the children have been making a fire engine out of two cardboard boxes, paper and toilet rolls which they then painted red. They all enjoyed choosing their own materials and paint to use.

As we wanted to explore the garden, the children first helped the practitioners to check that the garden was safe to play in. Once everywhere had been checked we used paper and rubbed crayons on different areas to make a range of different patterns on the paper. We then went on a bug hunt in the garden looking in the rosemary bush and under the logs by the mud patch to find the bugs.

The children extended their bug hunt onto tea time when they made ‘ants on logs’ with celery, cream cheese and raisins.

Have a lovely weekend

This week Angela’s children have been looking at photographs of their favourite things, which they bought in to share with each other. They then used these photos to make books.

Hayley’s children have been learning the alphabet through singing songs, some of the children were able to recite all of the words to the songs.

If you have any bits and pieces or spare material which could be used for junk modelling these would be greatly appreciated as next week Angela’s key children will be making their own transport.

If any of you have any Sainsburys vouchers that you would like to donate to the nursery please could you give them in as soon as possible as we are approaching the deadline.

The Chipmunks would like to wish very Happy 3rd Birthday’s to Megan, Jack and Bryony who will all be celebrating their birthdays next week.

Don’t forget to join us for breakfast on Wednesday 2nd May, parents and grandparents are welcome, please let you child’s key person know if you will be attending.

This week the children have been given tasks and jobs to carry out around the room, they have all been taking it in turns to help give out the cups, plates etc at meal times. One of the children even helped their friends by pouring milk onto their cereal at breakfast time!

These activities have given the children a sense of responsibility and understanding of how to care for others.

Next week Angela’s children will be making a book of their favourite things, so could you please bring in pictures or photos for your child’s book.

To celebrate St George’s Day on Monday please could the children wear something red to nursery.

On 1st June we will be holding a garden party to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee, please let your child’s key person know if you and other family member’s would like to attend. We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join our celebrations.

The children have had a fun week learning to communicate with each other and making their needs known. We have learnt to listen to our friends during “Good morning” time.

We’ve also been busy making cards and decorations for Easter. The children had a wonderful time at our Easter Bonnet parade. It was so nice to see them in their wonderful hats.

Have an excellent weekend.

March 23rd, 2012

This week we have been working on building relationships with each other. The older children in the room have been using a buddy system to take care of the younger children who are new to the room and helping them settle in to the new routine. We have also been practicing our turn-taking and sharing skills during show and tell.

We would like to remind all the parents whose children will be attending the Easter Bonnet Parade next Thursday at 2:20PM, that they will need an Easter Bonnet. The more child-led the better!  If you need some tips or inspiration, then look at our blog item for some useful links!

Angela, Hayley and all of the Chipmunks would like to say a big “Good Bye and Good Luck!” to Gemma today, who is leaving us and moving to our sister nursery in Reading, The Wigwam. We would like to say “Hello and welcome!” to Emma, who will be joining us from next week.

To see what the Chipmunks have planned for next week please take a look at their planning.

We hope you all have a good weekend,

Angela, Hayley & Gemma
