May 18th, 2012

This week the children have been getting really excited about our Jubilee party, we have been making our Union Jacks and crowns ready for June 1st.

We have also been learning our Makaton signs which the children have all really enjoyed and they have spent lots of time practising the signs which they have learnt. We then continued this activity on by creating a display board so that the children can see the different signs throughout the day.

The Raccoons would like to wish Aanya a very Happy 4th Birthday on Monday.

If you have not done so yet please could you bring in photos for your child’s family book.

Don’t forget to join us for breakfast on Tuesday.

This week we have been focusing on problem solving, reasoning and numeracy. The children have showed a keen interest in different number language for example quarter and half and had lots of fun playing snakes and ladders. Playing this game helped to develop the children’s knowledge of numbers especially those beyond 10 and counting in sequence.

Next weeks letter of the week is ‘r’.

This week the Raccoons have been doing a mixture of different activities – from playing a listening game and traffic light games during circle time to group talks on the children’s interests and role playing kings and queens. The children choose this role play after reading a book about a stolen crown, so they made their own crowns and a castle and even made more dens.

The children also loved the weather which we have had this week because they were able to jump in the puddles in the garden!

Our letter of the week this week was ‘o’ so we made orange cheesecake, octopuses and we played with ocean animals and water.

Next week’s letter of the week is ‘p’.

To celebrate St George’s Day on Monday please could the children wear something red to nursery.

Don’t forget to join us for our parents and grandparents for tea on Tuesday 24th.

Our termly parent meetings will be taking place the week of 14th May, please speak to your key person to make an appointment.

This week Kay’s children have been focusing on the environment, looking at dangers and how to keep safe, talking together about what keeps us safe, ready for our walk to the Look Out, encouraging the children to risk assess dangers themselves. The children showed a keen interest and knowledge of this throughout our journey to the Look Out.

This week Perry’s children have been focusing on hand eye co-ordination and control of different utensils, we have been making collages, shape cutting with play dough, playing bat and ball and have also been writing our names.

The Raccoons also really enjoyed our trip to the Look Out and were all very well behaved and had a great time.

We would like to wish Tiffany a very Happy Birthday on Monday.

This week the Raccoons have shown a lot of interest in numbers, this interest started when we read a book about a Dinosaur telling the time. We then began to play number lotto and sang number songs to help us recognise our numbers. Carrying this theme on we also played matching games to help us recognise quantities too.

The Raccoons have also been enjoying playing  in the garden and watching the trees move in the wind, so next week we will be making our own kites out of different materials so that we can watch them in the wind.

The Raccoons would like to wish Shemsi a very Happy 4th Birthday today and wish Emma Richmond, our new team member in the Chipmunks, a Happy Birthday today.

Have a great Easter weekend

We did lots of cooking this week making lemon tarts, shortbread and cornflake cakes. The children love to get involved in cooking and taste their yummy creations!

Through the middle of the week we looked at all the things we could do with leaves. The children really enjoyed leaf rubbing and sticking with dried leaves.

The children got very excited about the Easter Bonnet Parade and seeing the Easter Bunny! It was a great afternoon which ended with party games and music.

We’d like to wish Shemsi a Happy 4th Birthday on the 5th April.

Have a lovely weekend.

March 23rd, 2012

This week the Racing Raccoons have spent a lot of time in the garden, enjoying the sunshine! We’ve been moving as many activities as possible outside in the top garden.  We’ve been using circle time, garden games and rule boards to look at awareness of boundaries and what is right and wrong, both inside and outside of the nursery.

Next week the children will be focusing on communicating their interests and wants. We will be doing lots of den building, role play, flash cards and interest books. Please can parents bring in unwanted materials and string for the den building and photos of favourite things for their interest books.

To see what else we have planned please take a look at our planning.

We would like to wish Elliot Deane a Happy Birthday on the 27th. We’d also like to say ”Good luck and good bye” to Gemma, who is moving to our sister nursery in Reading, the Wigwam. Everyone at The Teepee will miss her.

Next week is ‘L’ week. Please only bring in show and tell items of your choice on Tuesday and show and tell for the letter of the week on your first day back only, thank you.

All parents are welcome to join us for the Easter Bonnet Parade next Thursday at 2:30PM. Please remember that you and your child need to make a bonnet. The best bonnet on the day will win a prize! If you need tips or inspiration, please look at our blog for useful links.

Have a great weekend!
